Honda introduced three new models at Auto Shanghai 2013. The Concept M previews a value MPV that will launch in China next year. The Crider is a middle class saloon while the Jade is a 'value passenger mover'. None of the new arrivals are destined for the Irish market at this time.
We had a preview of Concept M before the show opened; it is designed to deliver car-like dynamics in a market sector dominated by MPVs based on commercial vehicles. Designed by Honda R&D in Japan the interior is claimed to offer some clever packaging to maximise interior room. For now we'll have to take that on trust as the show car had blacked out windows.
At the Beijing Motor Show last year Honda unveiled the Concept C, which has become the Crider for production. The design is apparently based on the image of a dragon and will be produced by Guangqi Honda Automobile.
Another new model, the Jade, was also introduced as a concept in Beijing (called the Concept S). It is another MPV, primarily for China but designed to be a 'global' car. In keeping with its name the design was based around the image of a jade stone with a 'beautiful exterior look'. Dongfeng Honda Automobile will sell the Jade in China.
Seiji Kuraishi, president of Honda Motor (China) Investment Co. Ltd commented: "Honda will continue proposing automobiles that offer new value to our customers in China. At the same time, Honda, Guangqi Honda and Dongfeng Honda will work closely together to further localize the development, procurement and production of Honda products in China. We believe that our role is to initiate actions to create new things and carve out a new and fun future together with our customers."
