The second model in Citroen's reinvented DS line, the DS4 crossover, will be unveiled to the public at the Paris Motor Show next month, alongside the car it's based on, the new Citroen C4.
The DS4 trades on its striking styling. While obviously from the same school of design as the five-door C4 hatchback, the DS model sits higher up and features more extravagant detailing. Standout aspects include the Alfa Romeo-esque hidden rear door handles and curved LED daytime running lights.
Inside, Citroen's designers have been given a free rein to distance the DS4 from the C4, with more premium materials as standard, a high level of equipment and technology and trim options - such as thick 'Bracelet' leather on the seats, dashboard and door tops - that are not usually found in a car of this size.
Five engine options will be available at launch. HDi diesel power comes from either 1.6- or 2.0-litre units, with 110- or 160hp respectively. Petrol alternatives are a naturally aspirated, 120hp 1.6-litre, or turbocharged versions of the same unit, with either 155- or 200hp. These have been developed in conjunction with BMW. All engines can be specified with either a manual or EGS (Electronic Gearbox System) transmission, both with six speeds.
The 110hp turbodiesel is available in e-HDi guise, which features stop-start, a second-generation reversible alternator and an e-booster function that restarts the engine in a claimed 0.4 seconds, an electronically controlled alternator that recovers energy during braking and the EGS transmission. Fuel economy and emissions figures have yet to be released.
Following its world debut at the Paris Motor Show on September 30, the new Citroen DS4 will go on sale in 2011.
