The latest version of the hugely anticipated Honda NSX was showcased at the Honda Indy 200 event last weekend. The prototype took to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course to perform a demonstration lap in front of crowds of racing fans as it moves closer and closer to its 2015 release.
"With leadership from our R&D and manufacturing teams here in Ohio, it is natural for us to showcase the prototype vehicle here at Mid-Ohio," comments Ted Klaus, Chief Engineer of Honda R&D Americas, Inc. "We are developing a next generation sports car that will equally be at home on the street and on the track."
The excitement behind the next-generation NSX is its potential to revolutionise the future of the fuel-efficient supercar while offering "unparalleled" handling capabilities. Under the bonnet features a direct-injection V6 linked to Honda's Sport Hybrid SH-AWD (Super Handling All-Wheel Drive) system. By using a conventional hybrid system attached to the V6 petrol engine combined with one electric motor attached to each front wheel - making three in total - the NSX can control the torque sent to the front wheels independently to ensure that maximum grip is available at all times. Honda says that this level of control will give the NSX a massive edge over the current all-wheel drive systems.
Anything else?
Klaus goes on to say, "It is exciting for us to see the prototype running on track, reflecting the great progress we're making toward the 2015 global launch of the NSX, as we engineer a new sports car experience for customers around the world."
