Subaru celebrates a 25-year Legacy

New Subaru Legacy concept bound for LA show.

Subaru is marking the 25th anniversary of the Legacy model with this concept version, which will be shown off at next week's Los Angeles motor show.

Subaru is sadly being rather tight-lipped on both technical details and whether or not this is how the next-gen Legacy will look, but here's hoping. All the Japanese car maker will say for now about what's underneath the concept's striking skin is that it sticks with Subaru's traditional boxer engines and symmetrical four-wheel drive. Subaru has been working hard lately on both hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains so it's likely that the Legacy Concept uses one or other of those.

The cabin is said to be the Legacy concept's most striking feature with lots of brown leather, blue highlights and a dash design and instrument layout said to be inspired by smartphones. The car is also equipped with Subaru's new EyeSight technology, which scans the road ahead for any danger and can alert the driver or automatically slam on the brakes as needed.

Anything else?
Subaru has led us up the garden path before with gorgeous concepts that metamorphosed into bland production models (yes, Impreza, that's you we're looking at...), but hopefully, at long last, it will carry through with the looks of a concept car and make the new Legacy we can buy look this good.
