Lexus teases new F model

High performance variant of the Lexus RC coupé to debut in Detroit.

Lexus has started to build hype for January's Detroit Auto Show with a teaser shot of a forthcoming, high-performance F model. No word on which member of the Japanese manufacturer's line-up this F model refers to but it stands to reason it could be the RC coupé.

Shown at the Tokyo Motor Show just last month the RC is Lexus's answer to the BMW 4 Series and Audi A5, meaning the RC F would go head-to-head with the M4 and RS 5 models. The RC variants shown in Japan were the RC 300h hybrid (which mates an electric motor with a 2.5-litre petrol engine) and the RC 350 that is powered by a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine. Mating an electric motor to the latter V6 engine may produce the power figures to unsettle the RC F's German rivals, but it seems likely that a variation of the IS F's 5.0-litre V8 may be used instead.

Anything else?
According to Lexus, the new F model has been "engineered from scratch" and "promises to deliver performance synonymous with Lexus's heritage of F-designated performance models." Here's hoping it retains the IS F's stacked exhaust that are meant to resemble an F.
