What is it?
The new Passat is a heavily revised version of the existing car, sitting on the same platform but with a new body and new engines. The car looks more aggressive and a little like the Phaeton. There is a new range of engines for Ireland that will further reduce emissions.
Why's it here?
The Passat is big business for Volkswagen, here and abroad, and while Toyota still has the number one slot in the segment you feel it won't be long before that changes. The new Passat arrives in December and it will boast a range of engines from 1.4-litre petrol to 2.0-litre diesel, with the 1.6-litre diesel likely to gain lots of followers because of its Band A emissions.
Show stopper or floor filler?
It isn't a radical change but it is a handsome car and certainly here in Ireland given the strong sales of this model there is likely to be quite the stampede for the new Passat in January.
