Kia updates its Optima saloon

Updated Kia Optima goes on sale in Ireland.

The Kia Optima hasn't set any sales records here in Ireland (unfairly, as it's a cracking car), although it has proven to be hugely successful across the pond in the US. Hence it's already time for a refresh.

Exterior
The updated Optima is most noticeable by its sharper looking front end. The LED daytime running lights have been moved from the bumper and are now integrated into the main headlight unit, bringing it more into line with the rest of the Kia range when it comes to styling. A further tweak to the fog lights in the front bumper sees them now surrounded by a body-coloured panel. At the rear, the boot lid has been given a sharper look while the rear lights also receive a slight update.

An optional sports pack also adds a black mesh front grille, chrome surround for the lower air intake, a matt black rear diffuser and unique 18-inch double-spoke alloy wheels.

Interior
Kia seems to have spent most of its Optima update budget on the exterior as the cabin appears to have been left untouched.

Mechanicals
A nice easy one for buyers as Kia Ireland only offers a single engine option - a 1.7-litre diesel that produces 134hp. At least there is a choice between manual and automatic transmissions.

Anything else?
The Kia Optima Platinum (the only spec offered here) is priced from €30,950 and this updated model is now available to order from authorised Kia retailers.
