Lexus to recall 983 vehicles in Ireland

GS 300, IS 250/220d and RX 300 models affected.

Lexus Ireland is recalling a number of vehicles in Ireland to replace the fuel pump connector or the rubber cup seal of the brake master cylinder.

For the fuel pump connector, the affected car is the GS 300 produced between September 2004 and February 2006. In the case of the rubber cup seal of the brake master cylinder, GS 300 models produced between September 2004 and December 2005, IS 250/220d models made between September 2004 and December 2005 and RX 300 SUVs produced between February 2003 and November 2005 form part of the recall.

In the case of the fuel pump connector, a statement issued by Lexus Ireland says that "the number of GS 300 cars affected in Ireland is 347 vehicles. Over time, the fuel pump connector within the fuel tank can move, causing it to wear. This could lead to a failure which could cause the engine to stall during driving, or lead to the inability to restart the car after it has stopped. The repair involves replacement of the fuel pump connector, which takes about three hours."

In regard to the rubber cup seal of the brake master cylinder, the statement says. "The number of Lexus cars affected in Ireland is 938 vehicles. Under certain conditions, the rubber cup seal on the brake master cylinder could deteriorate. This eventually could lead to a slight brake fluid leakage from the sealing portion. Should this arise the driver will be alerted to it by the illumination of the brake warning indicator light. At this point if the brake fluid is not replaced the driver will begin to notice a spongy or soft brake pedal feel and the braking performance may gradually decline. The repair involves replacement of the rubber cup seal, and a check for any fluid contamination, which takes about two hours. Again, the work will be done at no cost to the customer."

Lexus owners who have questions or concerns should contact their local dealer or Lexus Customer Relations for assistance on freefone 1800 224 222.

No Toyota vehicles are affected in Ireland.

Mark Teevan, Managing Director, Lexus Ireland commented: "We will be writing to customers in the immediate future to arrange for them to make an appointment with their Lexus Dealer to have the repair procedure carried out at a time that is convenient and which ensures minimal disruption for the customer."
