Lamborghini is releasing a special edition of the monster Aventador LP 700-4 supercar to celebrate its 51-year association with Italian tyre manufacturer Pirelli. It is calling this new car the Aventador LP 700-4 Pirelli Edition, and it is enhanced by exclusive equipment designed by the Lamborghini Centro Stile.
Exterior
As this is a styling exercise, the Pirelli Edition will be available as either a Coupé or Roadster, with a pair of two-tone colour schemes to choose from. The first finishes the roof, pillars, rear-view mirrors, engine hood and all the active air intakes on the car in matte black, with six 'glossy' finishes available for the rest of the body (which are Giallo Spica, Rosso Mars, Bianco Isis, Nero Aldebaran, Grigio Liqueo and Grigio Ater - or yellow, red, white, black and two greys). The second finishes the upper parts of the body and the air intakes glossy black, to contrast with four monochrome matte finishes for the rest of the exterior (Bianco Canopus, Nero Nemesis, Grigio Adamas, and Grigio Titans).
All versions feature a thin red stripe along the roof and engine cover, the door mirrors and the outer profiles of the air intakes, with the Pirelli logo in red at the beginning of the two roof lines and on the tyres. Standard equipment also includes a transparent engine cover, the engine bay lined in carbon fibre, gloss black Dione alloy wheels (20-inch front, 21-inch rear), P Zero rubber and red callipers (if you go for Rosso Mars, they're yellow).
Interior
There's black Alcantara with red contrast stitching for the cabin, where the red stripe motif is continued along the ceiling and on the seats; the chairs feature both the Lamborghini and Pirelli crests embroidered in red. Each car will have a 'Pirelli special series' plaque to commemorate their limited edition nature.
Mechanicals
No change from the 6.5-litre V12 engine, making 700hp at 8,250rpm and 688Nm of torque at 5,500rpm, driving through a seven-speed paddle shift 'ISR' automatic transmission to all four wheels. That means the Pirelli Editions can do 0-100km/h in 2.9 seconds and go on to 350km/h.
Anything else?
Lamborghini and Pirelli first collaborated way back in 1963 on the first car Ferruccio knocked out, the 350 GTV; since then, every single Lamborghini made has been fitted with Pirelli tyres from the factory. You can order an Aventador Pirelli Edition now for delivery in early summer 2015, although the price and indeed the number that will be made have yet to be confirmed.
