Midlife updates for Citroen Berlingo

Citroen facelifts Berlingo Multispace and LCV ahead of Geneva.

Citroen has mildly updated the Berlingo, in both its Multispace passenger version and the LCV van format. The revised models will be displayed at the Geneva Motor Show in a few weeks' time.

Exterior

Not much to note here, as the facelift is very minor. A new bumper with repositioned daytime running lights and a fresh front grille are the most obvious improvements, while two new body colours are introduced - Acier Grey and Moka Brown.

Interior

A few improvements inside, with rear knee room in the Multispace up to 245mm and the boot capacity standing at a healthy 675 litres with the seats up, or a faintly unbelievable 3,000 litres with the three independent seats in row two removed. The rear window now opens and there is a new connectivity system called Touchdrive Interface, with a seven-inch screen to control it. Driver assist systems such as Active City Brake, extra front parking sensors and a reversing camera are all part of the facelifted Berlingo's specification.

Mechanicals

The Multispace benefits from the BlueHDi diesel engines, now EU6 compliant and offering excellent economy and emissions figures. No petrol options are offered, so you're looking at 75-, 100- and 120hp versions of the diesel. Some are equipped with start-stop technology, while the ETG6 automatic is an option on the 100hp unit. The 120hp BlueHDi now comes with a six-speed manual gearbox, with the Berlingo range delivering between 4.1- and 4.3 litres/100km (68.9- to 65.7mpg) fuel consumption and emissions of between 109- and 113g/km CO2.

Anything else?

The LCV version can still be had with EU5 e-HDi engines, as well as the BlueHDi units, and benefits from many of the updates seen on the Multispace. Additionally, it can be had with an Extenso cabin, which allows three people to sit side-by-side and which has folding passenger seats so that long items can be slid into the Berlingo van. There's also an additional 7.5-litre storage compartment under the centre seat. Finally, there's a Citroen Berlingo Electric LCV, with a range of 170km, 68hp and 200Nm of torque available from 0- to 1,500rpm.
