The latest round of Euro NCAP tests, carried out by the European authority for automobile safety, has seen the new Audi TT score just four out of a potential five stars. Results from the tests showed that although the car's structure rated highly for both side and front impacts, the test dummies recorded light to moderate forces, with the passenger dummy's chest faring worst.
Some of the other reasons for the TT not being awarded a full five-star score were the lack of crash mitigation technology and the fact that the Audi cannot be equipped with a knee airbag. Its score also suffered in the area of child protection. Additionally, driver aids such as lane keep assist are only available as optional extras, whereas NCAP test are based on cars in their most basic standard guise.
Anything else?
Whilst this won't be great news to Audi, it is worth acknowledging that each year the NCAP tests are made increasingly more stringent. This means that more new cars that undergo testing this year could also struggle to gain a full five-star result.
