Renault has announced the limited edition Clio Renaultsport 220 Trophy EDC.
Each Trophy model is individually numbered and gets unique styling touches, more power and a sharper chassis; it is scheduled to go on sale this summer.
Exterior
The Clio Renaultsport 220 rides on 18-inch 'Radical' alloy wheels and there is 'Trophy' badging on the front blade and door mouldings. A new colour scheme, Frost White, has been added; with a matt finish for the body and gloss black for the roof and rear spoiler. Other colours are Glacier White, Diamond Black, Flame Red and Liquid Yellow.
Interior
Inside the doorsills are inscribed with the limited edition number; an embossed leather steering wheel and the 'Trophy' interior pack (heated leather sports seats and lots of carbon-fibre-look trim) are also standard. The Renaultsport Monitor on-board telemetry system is an option.
Mechanicals
A 20PS power increased has been achieved by fitting a larger turbo, free-flowing air intake and revised exhaust - that incorporates a new Euro6 catalytic converter. Maximum power is 220PS with 260Nm peak torque; a 'Torque Boost' function works in fourth and fifth gears to raise that figure by 20Nm. Renault has also raised the red line from 6,500- to 6,800rpm. The extra performance has not hurt CO2 emissions, which are reduced by 6g/km to 138g/km.
The EDC transmission is improved with faster shift times and reduced travel for the steering wheel paddles. New software calibration and the raised engine rev limit allow earlier downshifts while Sport mode is said to allow gear change patterns that are more reactive to driving style. Three transmission settings - Normal, Sport and Race - can be chosen through the R.S. Drive system.
A faster steering rack is fitted for sharper direction changes while the suspension is lower and stiffer. Finally, the new Clio Renaultsport rides on 205/40 R18 Michelin Pilot Supersport Tyres.
Anything else?
Expect prices and final specifications to be announced closer to the Clio Renaultsport 220's launch date.
