Suzuki's new iM-4 concept shares a platform, engine and hybrid system with the equally new iK-2 concept.
While it's pretty obvious that the iK2 will become the next Swift, the iM-4 looks like a dead cert to be the new Jimny. Except Suzuki says that it's not, it's something new.
Whatever it is or isn't, it sits atop Suzuki's new modular chassis platform and uses the same Boosterjet 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine as the iK2. It's also tied into the new Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki, or SHVS system, which Suzuki claims delivers significant fuel and emissions savings. This new mild hybrid uses an ISG (integrated starter generator), providing engine power assistance using the motor and achieves efficient power regeneration. The SHVS system used for the iM-4 also features lithium-ion batteries. Coupled with a newly-developed high-efficiency ISG, this regenerative braking system is the perfect hybrid system for a compact car. As well as improving fuel efficiency, it also keeps down the size, weight and cost.
The big 18-inch wheels are punched right out to the corners of the iM-4, which suggests that it's been designed with some proper off-roading in mind.
