Here's a mobile catering truck with a difference - this is 'Le Bistrot du Lion', or in slightly less romantic English, the Peugeot Food Truck. It's a concept van that transforms into a 30-seater restaurant and it will be on display at Milan Design Week from 14 April, where it will comfortably outshine the average kebab van you might find in a lay-by.
The BdL has short overhangs but a long wheelbase, allowing it maximum urban manoeuvrability with as much load volume as possible. The sides of the van open up once on site to create the restaurant, which features separate areas for food prep, dining and refreshments, as well as a DJ booth showcasing the new digital music platform from the Lion, Peugeot Music.
If you're not sitting in a decent space, a 46-inch screen with eight high-end Focal speakers and 32 tweeters relays the chef's every move live, while it conforms to food hygiene regulations thanks to a fastidious build by Euromag, a French food truck specialist. In the kitchen, the chef can use a 400-litre under-foot refrigerated food compartment, a 350-litre drinks fridge, two grilling plates and four induction burners, and a deep fat fryer. There's also a Rocket Espresso coffee machine so a good meal can be finished in style.
Anything else?
The incumbent chef for the first tenancy of Le Bistrot de Lion is Sven Chartier, of Saturne and Le Clown Bar in Paris, who will also be using the latest Peugeot salt and pepper set - called 'Milan', this pair of condiment dispensers will be on sale at the Milan show and then distributed through Poivrières Salières Production (PSP) Peugeot sales outlets.
