A standard Peugeot 208 managed fuel consumption of 2.0 litres per 100km, a record for production cars, in a long-distance fuel economy run. The record was set in April at a circuit in Belchamp, France, under the scrutiny of the French Type Approval Authority (UTAC).
A team of drivers, each working for 3-4 hours at a time, drove the Peugeot 208 for 38 consecutive hours. A distance of 2,152km (or 1,337 miles) was covered, using 43-litres of diesel (9.45 gallons). The car used was a 208 fitted with the 1.6-litre, 100hp BlueHDI S&S diesel engine and five-speed manual gearbox. Standard equipment on the model selected for the attempt included a rear spoiler and Michelin Energy Saver+ tyres.
Anything else?
Ireland gets the new 208 this July; much of the range boasts low CO2 emissions with the BlueHDI models producing less than 95g/km. Petrol versions producing 97g/km are also available.
