BMW has announced an update to the Competition Package offered to buyers of the M6 Coupe, M6 Gran Coupe and M6 Convertible. It essentially boils down to more performance, as power is increased to 600hp and torque rises to 700Nm.
Exterior
The M6's styling was updated at the same time the rest of the 6 Series line-up received its mid-life facelift earlier this year (read our review of the updated BMW 650i Coupe here), but models fitted with the Competition Package are further differentiated by unique 20-inch double-spoke alloy wheels and a black chrome finish for the four exhaust outlets.
Mechanicals
BMW's twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine powers the M6 as ever and for the Competition Package its peak power has been boosted from 560hp in the standard model to 600hp (up from 575hp for the original Competition Package). Maximum torque rises from 680Nm in the regular M6 to 700Nm, available from 1,500- to 6,000rpm. The M6 Coupe and Gran Coupe dispatch the 0-100km/h time in 3.9 seconds and the M6 Convertible takes 0.1 seconds longer, though all easily reach their 250km/h speed limiter. Buyers can opt to have that raised to 305km/h by specifying the M Driver's Package.
The Competition Package also comes with significant chassis upgrades, including firmer springs, damping and anti-roll bars. The Active M Differential has been reprogrammed, as has the software for the Servotronic power steering, while the M Dynamic Mode of the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system has been tweaked to allow more slip of the rear tyres before intervening.
Anything else?
The Competition Package goes on sale in July 2015 and, for reference, adds €12,215.66 to the price of the BMW M6 Coupe, which starts at €171,300 no-the-road.
