July 4th 1957 was the day when Fiat unveiled the Dante Giacosa-designed original 500 to the waiting Italian public. A simple, small, light car, the little 500 went on to be a storming success selling 3.6-million examples during its life. In 2007, also on July 1st, Fiat repeated the trick, unveiling the current 500, which has gone on to sell 1.5-million units.
Now, on July 4th 2015, they're at it again. A face lifted and updated 500 will be revealed. Don't go expecting massive changes though - Fiat isn't about to mess much with its successful formula. The styling will be lightly tweaked at the front and on the inside, there will be a small upgrade that includes a uConnect touch screen, high-end options like keyless entry and we've heard word that fifties-style tartan trim will be available.
No engine changes or major updates have been announced but it's likely Fiat will make some small tweaks to trim Co2 levels and fuel consumption.
