Audi continues to lead the premium new car registration tables in 2015 with a healthy 39.4 per cent share over rivals BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus and Jaguar. Up until the end of July the German car maker registered 4,388 new cars, with the A3 proving to be its top performer with 1,111 units followed closely by the A6 with 1,027 units. The A4, although soon to be replaced, also performed well with 865 units registered, and helped see Audi models ranked second, third and fourth most commonly registered this year.
"We are pleased to experience such a strong first month of sales for the 152-reg period," said Christian Gussen, Managing Director of Audi Ireland. He added: "The consumer remains discerning, and places great emphasis on quality and innovation. Audi's sustained growth is testament to the investment decisions taken both centrally and at dealership level, particularly in expanding our dealer network teams. Our focus is on delivering best-in-class in-car technology, driver experience and customer service."
It was the evergreen BMW 5 Series that continued to top the premium car registration charts with 1,320 units, making up 11.8 per cent of the total market. In total BMW registered 3,818 new cars up to the end of July this year. It is hoped that the newly facelifted 3 Series will help to boost numbers in the second half of the year. Lagging some way behind these two is the other German compatriot, Mercedes-Benz. The firm remains in a more distant third place with 2,285 vehicles registered, with the E-Class remaining its top performer and occupying sixth place in the new model registration tables.
Anything else?
Beyond the German 'Big Three', Lexus occupies fourth place with 425 new cars registered, with its latest Lexus NX being its best performing model and further proof that the crossover segment remains strong. Jaguar had a slow start to the year with just 204 new cars registered but with deliveries of the new Jaguar XE now starting to reach customers this figure should see an improvement.
