First-ever open-top Lamborghini Superveloce has a top speed in excess of 350km/h.

For the first time ever, Lamborghini is applying its coveted and revered Superveloce tag to one of its open top models. Thus, the insane Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce Roadster must be the quickest way in the world to mess up your hair.

Exterior

Like all good Lamborghini SVs, the Roadster has a lot of black detailing - including the trademark mainly black rear end that was seen on the Murcielago model - socking great alloy wheels and the huge, lurid SV decals on the side. It also has more aggressive air intakes at the front, large aero addenda front, side and rear, and four exhaust pipes arrayed in one of the most evil car back ends we've yet seen; insert your own 'the view most drivers will see' gag here. The Roadster has a two-piece, carbon fibre open-top, which can be stowed in the boot and weighs less than 6kg, while the whole car's monocoque is made from carbon fibre. Thus, the kerb weight of the Roadster is a mere 50kg heavier than the coupé SV, at 1,575kg all-in.

Interior

Taking its lead from the Aventador SV coupé, the Roadster's cabin is stripped of carpet and sound deadening in places, and shows off a lot of exposed carbon fibre here and there. The open-top also gets a power rear window that 'allows the free-flowing engine sound to fill the cabin with invigorating tones and harmonics during spirited driving'. Ah, bless Lambo!

Mechanicals

Stephan Winkelmann, the president and CEO of Lamborghini, said at the car's launch: "The Superveloce is the purest, most sports-oriented and fastest series production Lamborghini ever. The Roadster version represents our commitment to satisfying our passionate clients with immensely emotional driving dynamics combined with an extraordinary open air experience."

And who can argue with him? Powered by the same monster, normally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 as found in the coupé SV, that means the LP 750-4 Roadster has, well... 750hp going through all four wheels (the clue's in the car's name). It develops that peak power at 8,400rpm and as it is 50kg lighter than an Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster, the power-to-weight ratio is an astonishing 476hp-per-tonne.

With such oomph backed up by 690Nm, the Aventador SV Roadster scorches from 0-100km/h just a tenth slower than its coupé sibling, at 2.9 seconds, and has a top speed in excess of 350km/h. Like the coupé, it also has the seven-speed automated manual gearbox, Haldex Generation IV all-wheel drive, magnetorheological suspension with pushrod dampers and Lamborghini Dynamic Steering (LDS) for a sharper drive than an LP 700-4.

Anything else?

Just 500 of these will be produced, making it ever so slightly rarer than the 600-run of coupé Aventador SVs - a car revealed at Geneva earlier this year and sold out within moments. Thus, despite the fact the Roadster is priced at €357,000 or US $530,075, and was unveiled at 'The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering' - part of the Monterey Car Week - in California, it too is likely to be sold out before you can even type 'prestige car finance' into your internet search engine. Deliveries to the lucky few will commence in early 2016.
