DS 4, DS 4 Crossback and DSV-01 Formula E racing car for Frankfurt.

French brand, DS, has already told us the details of its updated DS 4 and new crossover version, the DS 4 Crossback, but now it is upping the ante in the final run to this year's Frankfurt Motor Show with even more details and models announced.

For the DS 4, customisation is the name of the game as first introduced on the DS 3 model. With four paint colours to choose from for the roof and rear spoiler, door mirrors and wheel centre caps and nine body colours this means that there are 38 'bi-tone' combinations available, a feature that DS reckons is unique in the premium compact segment.

With the DS 4 Crossback, DS is wading into the lucrative premium compact crossover market and hoping to make a splash. Riding 30mm higher than the regular DS 4, the Crossback is more aggressively styled too with black wheel arch trims, a tweaked front end design and rear spoiler finished in black with grey roof bars.

Both models, in a first for any PSA vehicle, will also feature Apple CarPlay, providing in-car connectivity with Apple iPhones. A new seven-inch colour touchscreen, with 12 fewer buttons than before, will also include Mirror Screen technology - a function that duplicates Android or iOS smartphone content on the in-car screen.

Further car tech available on both models includes a reversing camera, blind spot monitoring and keyless entry and start.

The DS stand at the Frankfurt Motor Show will also be the setting for the first official viewing of the DSV-01, the Formula E racing car. This is the first year DS has been involved with the FIA Formula E series and has collaborated with Richard Branson's Virgin Racing to create the DS Virgin Racing team. DS Performance, the DS motor sport division, developed an electric motor and gearbox for this single-seater race car as well as the cooling system, rear transmission and suspension. The DSV-01 will be on show before it goes to Beijing for the first race of the new Formula-E season, which begins on the 24th October.

Anything else?

DS says it also has a 'noteworthy surprise' but we will have to wait until the actual show to find out what that is.

The Frankfurt Motor Show runs from 14th to 27th September.
