Ireland's most congested roads revealed

Is your route to work on one of the roads named by TomTom as Ireland's most congested?

TomTom has revealed Ireland's most congested roads.  It is bad news if you live in Dublin or Cork, which feature prominently in the list.

By collecting data on traffic flow from TomTom users, the company identified the locations where speeds dropped below 70 percent of the speed limit.  Using that measure the worst place to be is the Templeogue Road, approaching Terenure, Ballyboden, Dublin.  This road suffers congestion for 79 hours a week.

Cork's worst road is the M8 heading towards the N8 with 70 hours of heavy traffic.  The only road on the list not in Dublin or Cork is Main Street, Abbeyleix in Co Laois.

As well as highlighting the problem TomTom proposes a solution in the shape of its latest HD Traffic navigation systems with traffic information.  The LIVE services provide not just traffic data but speed enforcement, road closures and weather updates.

The Tom Tom GO LIVE 1000 is available from €279.99 and the company's representatives will be in Dublin on 22 and 23 December to demonstrate the devices to Christmas shoppers at Arnott's on Henry Street.
