Striking HSE Dynamic Lux slots in at the top of Land Rover Discovery Sport line-up.

Land Rover has announced a new model for the top of the Discovery Sport range, called the HSE Dynamic Lux. It makes its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Exterior

The HSE Dynamic Lux is marked out by Narvik Black exterior details, which you'll find in various places such as the front bumper, the grille, bootlid, roof and around the wheel arches. To complement this, the 20-inch wheels are Gloss Black while the body-coloured mouldings and door claddings are body-coloured.

Interior

Not much to report for the HSE Dynamic Lux, other than a choice of new colours and some different trim finishes. So the usual excellent Disco Sport cabin, then.

Mechanicals

Three big additions here that will be available on the wider 2016MY Discovery Sport: All-Terrain Progress Control; Active Driveline; and Adaptive Dynamics. The first of these enables drivers to set and maintain a steady speed - between 1.6- and 30km/h - in off-road or adverse weather conditions (such as snow and ice). There's also a Launch feature, which allows the car to pull away smoothly on low-friction surfaces.

Active Driveline is Land Rover's terminology for switchable four-wheel drive, as it allows the car to move into two-wheel drive to save fuel and increase the Discovery Sport's agility. It uses two electronically controlled clutches either side of the rear differential to apportion torque and you can monitor how many wheels are driven through a 4x4i screen on the eight-inch touchscreen. And Adaptive Dynamics means variable ride quality, due to MagneRide dampers. It also adds a driver-selectable Dynamic mode on the Terrain Response system, sharpening the throttle, gearbox and diff responses, as well as suspension and steering firmness to hopefully make the Disco Sport better to drive.

Anything else?

Gerry McGovern, Land Rover's design director and chief creative officer, said: "The Discovery Sport Dynamic has been created to heighten the design appeal of the Discovery Sport. Gloss black is a key accent colour differentiator on the exterior, while the use of body-coloured bumpers and door claddings emphasise its on-road, sporty presence. With the launch of the Discovery Sport HSE Dynamic Lux, we are offering our customers greater choice in the look and feel of their vehicle."
