Here's what could be the next generation SsangYong Korando, presented in XAV-Adventure concept car form at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Seen already at the Seoul Motor Show earlier this year, the styling of the XAV-Adventure is all chunky and masculine, designed to look like the 'iconic 4x4 trucks of yesteryear'. And for our money, any car company brave enough to use the word 'yesteryear' in a release deserves a medal.
Aside from the bluff appearance, the structure of the roof is made from carbon but has a convertible canvas centre section, offering as many crossover opportunities as possible for the SsangYong SUV.
The interior, rendered in black and brown, is said to be simple but practical, with one neat feature being a storage compartment in the rear door, allowing lifestyle items to be loaded in a convenient area for a 'leisure activity trip', if you're into that sort of thing.
Motive power comes from a choice of petrol and diesel 1.6-litre engines, with a hybrid-electric E-4WD system too. The two rear-mounted electric motors allow for either hybrid economy or hybrid performance driving, as well as assisting when the XAV-Adventure meanders off-road.
Further technical highlights come from the SsangYong 3S-CUBE sensing device, which uses a smart motion control system, electric air suspension and stereo vision to automatically determine the road conditions and adjust the ride height/comfort accordingly.
Anything else?
The XAV-Adventure previews the future look of SsangYong's showroom compact SUVs and crossovers, designed to fit in with the recently launched Tivoli. If this model does morph into the 'Korea Can Do', it will be the fourth SsangYong to wear the badge since 1984.
