The Skoda Superb has been given the nod for car of the year by the Association of Professional Motoring Press, the APMP. This is the second year of the APMP awards, and it should prove something of a fillip to the Volkswagen Group as it continues to be caught in the mire of 'Diesel-Gate.'
The Superb topped the overall list as well as taking home the Large Family Car of the Year award. "Superb is the best value for money large family car you can buy, especially in terms of square footage" said APMP chairman Michael Sheridan.
With each vehicle category, a juror had 25 points to distribute, with 15 points the maximum one vehicle could get and zero points the minimum. This voting system delivered a list of category winners. From the category winners list each juror, who come from all forms of media including print (national and daily and Sunday newspapers), radio (local and national), TV and online, had a single vote for their nominated car of the year and a simple majority delivered the overall winner.
The category winners were:
Skoda Superb for Large Family Car of the Year and Car of the Year
Audi A1 for City Car of the Year
Mazda 2 for Small Car of the Year
BMW 2 Series Active Tourer for Compact Family Car of the Year
Volkswagen Passat for Mid-Size Family Car of the Year
