It's the news normal aspiration fans were probably dreading, but one of the last bastions withstanding the relentless advance of forced induction has fallen: Honda will be bringing turbocharging to more of its range from 2017, following on from the success of the Civic Type R (CTR).
Thankfully, Hondamentalists can rest safe in the knowledge that VTEC continues, with two all-new downsized turbo petrols coming for the tenth-generation Civic. These units will be 1.0- and 1.5-litre lumps sold under the banner Earth Dreams Technology, joining the 310hp 2.0 found in the scorching CTR.
Honda says these powerplants are based on a completely new engine structure, and will feature a low-inertia turbo and direct injection technology, all of the above allowing them to develop high specific outputs.
Anything else?
The tenth-gen Civic is scheduled to launch in Europe in early 2017, following on from its announcement at this September's Frankfurt Motor Show.
