What's the news?
Subaru has revealed the next generation Impreza saloon in thinly disguised concept form at the Los Angeles Motor Show. The four-door follows the Subaru 'Impreza Five-Door Concept', unveiled a few weeks ago in Tokyo.
Exterior
Subaru launched its new corporate design language, Dynamic & Solid, with the Impreza. According to Subaru design boss Mamoru Ishii: "This concept was created under a new design theme, representing a design carved from a hard, rigid material while also flowing. We included many design cues within the concept that are symbolic of Subaru engineering."
The Impreza is central to Subaru's 'Prominence 2020' plan; it uses a new platform that will form the basis of other models including the next Outback.
Mechanicals
The Impreza is expected to use a new generation of boxer engines featuring cylinder deactivation technology. Thanks to the new platform the new model is expected to be stronger and lighter than the current car.
Anything else?
According to Autocar magazine the production Impreza will be launched in around a year's time.
