What's the news?
The first of 100 new Porsche Classic Centres - designed to cater for the marque's historic vehicles - has opened in Arnhem, Holland.
With more than 70 per cent of the cars ever built by Porsche still running on the roads today, the carmaker has decided to expand its dedicated international dealer and service network which caters for these classic machines.
Porsche wants to have 100 open by 2018, in which main Porsche centres that work on the modern range of cars will also be certified to service and maintain the older models. That leads to the tag Porsche Classic Partners and in each location, there will be a separate, specific area in the showroom with classic vehicles on display, as well as technical literature and information.
Not only is service and maintenance part of the upkeep, the Porsche Classic Centres can supply around 52,000 spare parts for various different old Porkers, and they can even carry out complete and partial overhauls of old Porsches too.
Anything else?
At present, there are 24 Porsche Classic Centres around the world, with ten in the marque's native Germany, most of the rest spread across Europe (including in the UK, the nearest Porsche partner to Ireland) and four more in Japan, South Africa, Thailand and the UAE. With the 100 new centres, further classic car coverage will be added in Australia, Belgium, Canada and the US, although there's not one confirmed for us as yet.
Anyone with a classic Porsche can keep abreast of developments on the company's website, www.porsche.de/classic.
