What's the news?
Volvo is whipping the covers off its new luxury saloon, the S90, at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit next month.
The S90 will feature semi-autonomous drive, called Pilot Assist (which can gently steer the car to keep it in lane at speeds of up to 130km/h), as well as cloud-based apps and a new feature in the City Safety drive assist package. Called large animal detection, it, er... detects large animals, such as elk, horses and moose, and then brakes/steers to avoid them.
No full engine line-up has been announced as yet, but one drivetrain confirmed for the S90 is the T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid, which could be the 400hp/640Nm monster as seen in the XC90 SUV.
Anything else?
"With the launch of the XC90, we made a clear statement of intent. We are now clearly and firmly in the game. With (US) $11 billion (€10.4bn) of investment over the past five years, we have not only reimagined what Volvo Cars can be - we are now delivering on our promise of a resurgent and relevant Volvo Cars brand," said Håkan Samuelsson, president and CEO of Volvo Car Group.
