What's the news?
Sterling silver atomisers, a bottle cooler, hide-trimmed stowage boxes - yes, this can only be the sheer opulence of life inside a Bentley Mulliner. The luxury marque's coach-building division is now offering high-end accessories in the Flying Spur saloon.
Available as either a 4.0-litre V8 or the monster 6.0-litre W12, the discerning Flying Spur customer can ask Mulliner to equip a number of items to make the car even more accommodating than its 'standard' specification. Let's start with the cooler, which allows storage for a bottle of Champagne between the rear seats. The bottle sits in a canted position, alongside a bottle stopper and two Champagne flutes, all hidden behind frosted glass with chrome detailing. Tasty.
Painted veneers, meanwhile, do what they say on the tin - a wider range of coloured trim finishes is now available through Mulliner, which means owners can better contrast their dashboard with the upholstery. Talking of which, the Mulliner Signature Quilt Pattern can be applied to the Flying Spur's centre console, as well as the seats and door cards.
But it's the sterling silver atomisers we like best. Hidden in discreet storage compartments in the Bentley's rear doors, these can spray a fine mist of water or perfume into the passenger area, 'delivering fragrance or refreshment for rear seat occupants'.
Well, indeed. And the hand-crafted rear stowage compartment for the centre console, leather-trimmed (natch), can hold a watch, coins... or even cufflinks. It's another world, isn't it?
Anything else?
Geoff Dowding, director of Mulliner, said: "Mulliner offers customer the opportunity to personalise their car over and above the one million-plus combinations already available to them. Creating bespoke features is about understanding our customer needs and requirements, and the Flying Spur is a perfect outlet for us to interpret their ideas."
