What's the news?
Alongside the company's first electric vehicle in its long history, Morgan has shown an 80th anniversary edition of the venerable 4/4 at the Geneva Motor Show. Unsurprisingly, it's called the Morgan 4/4 80th Anniversary Edition and it's limited to just 80 cars.
Conceived in 1935 as the first four-wheeled Morgan car and in continuous production ever since, apart from a brief hiatus during the Second World War, the 4/4 remains a light runaround at 795kg.
This 80th edition comes with solid wheels with brass centre locks, brass exterior accents and metal foil detailing not seen on any other 4/4. Three colours are offered, Morgan British Racing Green, Saxe Blue and Dark Red, while the car has a side-exit exhaust, a quad bonnet strap, brass mesh grille, mohair roof and part tonneau cover to identify it.
Inside are period Smiths dials with cream faces and brass details, set against a matte lacquered walnut dash. There's a numbered plaque detailing which of the 80-strong run the owner is sitting in and extended leather features on the door tops and pull handles.
Anything else?
Available in right- and left-hand drive, the Morgan 4/4 80th Anniversary Edition uses the 1.6-litre Ford Sigma engine, developing 111hp and 131Nm. That means it's good for 0-100km/h in 8.0 seconds, a 185km/h top speed and economy of 44.1mpg (6.4 litres/100km).
