What's the news?
Tiny Dutch sports car company Spyker unveiled the attractive C8 Preliator at Geneva, its third-generation vehicle.
Powered by a mid-mounted Audi-sourced 4.2-litre V8 engine equipped with a supercharger, the Preliator develops 525hp and 600Nm of torque. These figures drive the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission, with an automatic an option, propelling the 1,390kg hand-built machine from 0-100km/h in just 3.9 seconds before running on to a top speed of 322km/h.
Strangely, for a Dutch company, Spyker's production line is in the UK and the 50 Preliators to be built have to wait until the final five examples of its predecessor, the C8 Aileron, are completed.
Spyker has had a troubled recent past but its founder and CEO, Victor R. Muller, said at its Geneva Motor Show unveiling: "The greatest man in our industry, Enzo Ferrari, once said: 'What's behind you, doesn't matter'."
The styling of this meticulously hand-crafted machine is pretty tasty, calling on the firm's aviation heritage to inform its look, while the interior is full of intricate details like exposed gear linkages, quilted hand-stitched leather and brushed aluminium surrounds.
Anything else?
Muller added: "When I designed the Spyker C8 Preliator, I wanted it to ooze the sheer tenacity and determination with which we created a new dawn for our company. By launching it at Geneva, we pay homage to the Latin axiom which has adorned the Spyker propellor logo since 1914 - 'Nulla tenacia invia est via'; for the tenacious, no road is impassable."
Such exquisite luxury is expensive, though. It is likely the car will cost around €392,000 (direct conversion) for the manual and €400,000+ for the automatic.
