Renault to reveal new Koleos in Beijing

New seven-seat Renault SUV based on the Nissan X-Trail.

What's the news?

Well, Renault is becoming quite the SUV specialist. Off the back of the sales successes of both the Captur and Kadjar, and its upcoming pickup truck, La Regie is about to launch its first seven-seat SUV.

Bearing a distinct visual relationship to the Kadjar, this new car revives a somewhat unloved old Renault nameplate - the Koleos was Renault's first-ever SUV, launched in 2009 and which basically sank without trace because no-one liked it very much.

This new Koleos is likely to do rather better. Under the striking-looking skin, it's basically a Nissan X-Trail (a car we like rather a lot) and so it should be (a) good to drive, (b) well-made and (c) will come with a proven 1.6-litre dCi diesel and 1.6-litre turbo petrol.

Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn will pull the covers off the Koleos at the Beijing Motor Show next week, and sales will start later this year.
