Volvo sculpture shows off S90 interior

Volvo sculpture shows off S90 interior
Luxurious Lounge Console Volvo S90 cabin turned into a piece of art.

What's the news?

It's a sculpture that shows off what the interior of a production car might look like - this is what a Lounge Console-equipped Volvo S90 could be if it ever makes it into showrooms.

Based on the top-of-the-range S90 Excellence's interior, the Volvo Design Team added the most comfortable seating it could and a central control panel to look after items like a heated/cooled cup holder, the sound system, seating massage function and the large multimedia screen. The rear armrest also houses a couple of hand-cut crystal glasses from Orrefors and a fridge unit.

"We had such positive feedback with our original Lounge Console Concept in the XC90 that we wanted to take it a step closer to reality in an S90 Excellence interior," said Robin Page, vice president for Interior Design at Volvo. "With this interior we wanted to create a piece of art, a sculpture. We've taken many of the original concepts and made them come to life.

"One of the key elements is the removal of the front passenger seat. We removed this to provide unrestricted forward visibility and the sense of space and light that this brings. It has an immediate and extremely calming effect."

Anything else?

The idea of the Lounge Console Concept is that the S90 would provide three ways of travelling: it can be used as a mobile work station, a mobile cinema, or a mobile relaxation chamber.

Thomas Ingenlath, senior vice president for Design at Volvo, added: "We do things differently at Volvo Cars - we always have. Our distinctive approach to interior design aims to deliver a luxurious and calming experience. The art of Scandinavian Design is all about enhancing the life experience, and this is what Volvo Cars does best."
