What's the news?
There's a few quid burning a hole in your pocket, and you need to spend it on a car. But you've decided that it can't just be any old jalopy, oh no, you need a Roller, ideally kitted out with the last word in luxury and bespoke touches. You need a car from the Phantom Zenith Collection. This is a special run-out edition of both Coupé and Drophead models, commissioned to mark the end of current Phantom production before the new all-aluminium model arrives next year.
All Rolls-Royce's vehicles can be classed as luxury goods, but the Zenith models take that theme to another level. Features include a glass shelf on the split tailgate for facilitating picnics, along with a champagne fridge and a bespoke hamper which matches the chosen interior specification. The tailgate itself is covered in padded leather, so your champagne and/or ham sandwiches can be enjoyed in the utmost comfort.
Inside, the coach doors open to reveal laser-etched maps of places of importance to the Phantom Coupé on the armrest cappings, with Lake Como and Lake Geneva both featuring due to their status as locations of concept debuts in the car's early days. To satisfy those who would like to see more bits of factory included with their cars (British Leyland enthusiasts perhaps?), the dash contains a polished case containing a unique piece of steel from the Goodwood plant, with co-ordinates stating the exact location from which it was taken from on the line. The roof lining gives a good imitation of a star-filled night, and numerous bespoke interior and exterior colour choices are available. The hallmark Power Reserve gauge still prevents anything as vulgar as a rev counter from cluttering up the dash, and you can be sure the driving experience will be a lesson in pure waft.
Unfortunately, if all that has whetted your appetite then you're already too late. Only 50 cars will be produced, all currently spoken for by connoisseurs. Rolls are intent on reducing the average age of their customer base, so it will be interesting to see what direction that the eighth-gen Phantom will take. But for now, all we can do is marvel at the sheer opulence of the last of the current model, and keep playing the lottery.
