Audi now bundles data roaming with its nav system

New pan-European built in SIM card available on A4, Q7 and others.

What's the news?

In keeping with the modern theme that cars are becoming an extension of your smartphone, Audi is now including a built-in SIM card in models that use the its second-gen modular infotainment system, which includes the A3, the A4, the Q7 and the upcoming new A5 and Q2.

The built-in SIM allows owners to use their Audi connect online services over 3G and 4G networks, and the cost is built into a three-year bundle, one that also includes European data roaming, so you won't spend a fortune on extra costs if you take your car on holiday. It allows you to use Google Maps and StreetView as part of the car's navigation system, as well as getting up-to-date traffic and parking information along your route.

For a further fee, you can add on a Wi-Fi hotspot bundle, which allows you to hook up to eight wireless devices up to the SIM's signal. A European roaming package for the Wi-Fi service is also available.

The packages can be purchased online, from Audi's partner in the system Cubic Telecom, through the online myAudi account. Customers can also choose to insert their own SIM card into the car, and charge connectivity services to a third-party provider.
