Astra-inspired styling and better in-car tech for facelifted Opel Zafira Tourer.

What's the news?

Opel has given a substantial midlife facelift to its Zafira Tourer MPV, which has been on sale since 2011.

Inspired by the recent styling revolution that has been exemplified best on the face of the seventh-generation Astra, the 'twin boomerangs' front-end of the Zafira has gone, replaced by the neat 'wing' grille and 'double wing' daytime running lights. At the rear are sharper lamp clusters and a reshaped bumper, the whole lot tying in tidily to Opel's C-segment hatch, as the company's European design chief Mark Adams explains: "The front design of the new Zafira Tourer takes the major characteristics of the award-winning Astra and anchors it in Vauxhall's new portfolio. Its sharp, precise double-winged daytime running lights convey a new level of sophistication, which is also reflected in the interior by a completely redesigned instrument panel. It is purer, clearer and easier to use."

Talking of that instrument panel within, it's a much better design in here, thanks to the integration of the seven-inch screen in the centre console. There's a newly sculptured steering wheel too, with the latest generation IntelliLink infotainment making the Zafira super-connected. Expect OnStar, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a 4G/LTE WiFi hotspot to be fitted, while full LED Adaptive Forward Lighting headlamps and Adaptive Cruise Control will be optional. The facelifted Opel retains all of the flexibility and space its predecessor was renowned for, such as Flex7 seating, ergonomically certified front seats, a Flex-Fix bicycle carrier and FlexRide adaptive damping.

In terms of drivetrains, though, nothing changes, as the pre-facelift engines and gearboxes are carried over wholesale for the Zafira Tourer.

Anything else?

In showrooms from October, the prices of the facelifted Zafira Tourer are very likely to be in the ballpark of the existing model, which means a starting ticket of circa €31,595.
