Volkswagen Passat, CC and Eos next for emissions fix

Second round of post-dieselgate recall work to begin.

What's the news?

Owners of Volkswagen Passat, CC and Eos models affected by the emissions cheat device software are next in line to be recalled. The technical fix has been officially approved by Germany's Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) in relation to models with the 2.0-litre TDI EA 189 engines. Shortly, owners of these cars will receive a letter explaining that their car is to be recalled for the necessary remedial work.

This latest part of the recall campaign affects over 800,000 cars and relates to diesel engines with power outputs of 108-, 134- and 138hp. The work requires the car to be brought to any authorised Volkswagen workshop, irrespective of where the car was originally purchased, and the necessary work will be carried out at no cost to the owner. Volkswagen will also offer the option of replacement transport free of charge during the recall process, if required.

Both Volkswagen and the KBA have confirmed that this technical solution will not result in any changes to the fuel consumption, performance or noise emissions of the vehicles affected. This is also the same for the existing Volkswagen Golf recall campaign.

From the standpoint of the required recall work, all vehicles affected are technically safe and roadworthy prior to having the work carried out and so can continue to be driven normally. If you are unsure as to whether your car is affected or are not sure that your details are correct with Volkswagen, you can check this with your local Volkswagen dealer or by contacting Volkswagen Group Ireland.
