What's the news?

Following tradition, Mazda will launch an all-new MX-5 Icon special edition based on its current model. Set to make its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed the MX-5 Icon will go on sale from 1st August. Just 600 cars will be produced and it will use the 131hp Mazda MX-5 1.5-litre SKYACTIV-G engine.

Buyers will have a choice of Meteor Grey Mica or Crystal White Pearlescent paint at no additional cost, while all MX-5 Icon models will feature front and rear spoilers, side stripe decals (not pictured) and door mirrors finished is Mazda's Soul Red Metallic paint. All cars will come fitted with 16-inch Gunmetal alloy wheels. Inside there is black leather seats while rear parking sensors, dusk-sensing headlights and automatic wipers all feature as standard.

This latest model is the forth such MX-5 Icon edition. The first was sold in 2000 with 750 being produced. Five years later some 1,563 MX-5 Icon editions were produced while the last version to bear that name was built in 2007 with 1,250 examples rolling out of the factory.

If you are at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Mazda will be displaying its one millionth MX-5 to roll off the production line. The Mazda display will include the stunning MX-5 Speedster and Spyder concept cars, the first time these cars have appeared outside of North America.

Also making its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year will be the new MX-5 RF, the second model line that uses a folding hardtop to give it a more coupe-like silhouette.
