Volvo sees fourteen months of consecutive sales growth

Worldwide sales of Volvo cars are up by just over 10 per cent for the year to date.

What's the news?

Volvo Cars has reported fourteen months of consecutive sales growth with a 9.3 per cent net increase between July 2015 and July 2016 and a 10.3 per cent growth for the January to July period. The new Volvo XC90 is credited as the main driver for the rise while the XC60 was the company's most popular model.

In July, the USA was Volvo's largest market with 8,556 cars sold, and boasted the greatest year-on-year sales increase of 52.3 per cent. Affirming America's love of the large SUV, the XC90 outsold the XC60.

For the January to July period, China took more Volvos than any other market, a total of 46,895 cars; in July the sales figure was 6,171, up 5.8 per cent compared with 2015. The locally produced XC60 and S60L were the company's best-selling models.

Closer to home, sales across Western Europe were up just 0.1 per cent at 20,502 cars. That figure would have been higher but for an 11.2 per cent drop in sales for Volvo's home market, Sweden. Despite the sales dip the year-to-date sales across Europe increased by 8.9 per cent.
