Opel announces new Mokka X pricing Opel announces new Mokka X pricing
Updated compact crossover from Opel kicks off at €21,495.

What's the news?

Opel Ireland has confirmed that the updated Mokka X compact crossover will go on sale in October at a starting price of €21,495.

The Mokka X gets a new front end with redesigned headlights and grille, as well as some interior upgrades and a new turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol engine option.

That starting price gets you a relatively old-school 115hp 1.6-litre petrol - you'll need to find €25,795 to get a 140hp petrol turbo, or €26,295 for the cheapest 1.6-litre 136hp 'Whisper' diesel. As before, four-wheel drive is available as an option, as is an automatic gearbox.

On the outside, LED headlights with Adaptive Forward Lighting (AFL) will be available, featuring nine different functions/lighting patterns such as town light, country light, tourist mode, a curve and cornering function, backing-up/manoeuvring light and a stop mode light (eco). This LED system replaces the previous bi-Xenon AFL. LED features a light quality that allows seeing the 'true' colours of things, to the benefit of visual comfort. In addition, claims Opel, as there is no mechanical operation within the lamp module, it is faster and more accurate in its reaction, while also being highly reliable over time.

Inside, the cabin gets a major makeover and inherits some of the fixtures and fittings from the Astra hatchback and estate. Those include the option of the updated 'Intelliink' infotainment system that comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. As with all current Opels, the seats have been designed to the requirements of the Aktion Gesunder Rucken, the German bad back association.

Oh, and the X? That's part of a new badging system for Opels, where X indicates a crossover or SUV model. Expect to see much, much more of that in the future.
