Electric Hondas for Geneva

Honda will focus on electric power for the Geneva Motor Show next month.

Honda has announced that it will display its new EV Concept electric vehicle at next month's Geneva Motor Show, as well as exposing an all-new platform for its future electric powered vehicles.

Both of these concepts were officially unveiled last November, at the LA Auto Show. The decision to show them at Geneva is part of Honda's "road to zero emissions" programme, which highlights the current technology of its hybrids alongside the near-future technology of plug-in vehicles.

The EV, a familiar looking five-seat hatchback, appears to be a strong preview as to what the upcoming 2012 electric Jazz EV will be like, and is powered by Honda's latest three-mode electric drive system that will enter production in 2012. It is estimated to achieve an approximate 160-kilometer range per charge.

Concept number two is Honda's next generation Plug-In Hybrid Platform, which showcases the company's latest two-motor hybrid system within a mid-sized saloon. The system continuously moves through three different modes to maximise driving efficiency, these being all-electric, petrol-electric and an engine direct-drive mode. The plug-in hybrid utilises regenerative braking to charge the battery.

Also present on the Honda stand will be the zero-emissions FCX, the latest facelifted Accord, Jazz, Hybrid Jazz, Insight, CR-V and the latest CR-Z.
