What's the news?
Opel will update its excellent and clever IntelliLux LED headlights to version 2.0 for the all-new Insignia due out in 2017.
IntelliLux - Opel's version of matrix LED headlights, which can automatically dim portions of their beams to prevent dazzling other road users - was first seen on the award-winning Astra, but for the Insignia the German company has stepped the technology up a notch.
For a start, there are twice as many LED segments (32) in the Insignia's clusters are there are in the Astra IntelliLux headlights. That leads to smoother transitions between full beam and precisely adapted dimming patterns in relation to oncoming traffic.
The Insignia's units will also be brighter than the Astra's with a 400-metre high-beam range, while there's a new function that sees the inner matrix segments grow in intensity during cornering with full beam activated - helping to illuminate the inner radius of the curve.
Anything else?
"From the Astra, we know how much customers appreciate the benefits of IntelliLux LED matrix headlights," said Ingolf Schneider, engineering group manager for exterior lighting at Opel. "Now we are bringing the even more advanced second generation of this innovative technology onto the market in the all-new Insignia, with additional new functions that further improve visibility at night."
