Lotus Elise goes on a diet

This is the new Lotus Elise Club Racer - lighter and cheaper...

The Lotus Elise Club Racer has arrived, boasting an even leaner figure than the standard car.

Power is pegged at 136hp from the 1.6-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, but weight goes down by 24kg, to 852kg.

Lotus doesn't say whether it takes anything off the car's 6.5-second 0-100km/h dash, which means it probably doesn't. It is cheaper though.

The car debuts a Sport setting for the Dynamic Performance Management system that allows "less experienced sports car drivers to feel at the top of their game," though quite how it does that Lotus doesn't say.

The anti-roll bar is adjustable, and as with the standard car the springs come from Eibach and the dampers from Bilstein.

It's available now, in your choice of six colours. One of them is not black with gold, for shame.
