New 'Ingenium' petrol and diesel engines for the Jaguar XE, XF, and F-Pace ranges.

What's the news?

Jaguar is introducing new versions of its 'Ingenium' petrol and diesel engines for the XE, XF, and F-Pace ranges.

With the diesel backlash gathering momentum, perhaps it's no surprise that petrol is at the top of the agenda here, with a new 250hp 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine now available in all three models. It has 365Nm of torque and, in the F-Pace, returns economy and emissions figures of 7.4 litres/100km (38.2mpg) and 170g/km.

The XF and the XE are also getting a 200hp version of the same engine, which in the XF returns a claimed 6.8 litres/100km (41.5mpg) and 154g/km of Co2 (although the more powerful 250hp engine is rated at only 159g/km, there's a tax-band jump between the two models).

In the XE the same engine returns 6.3 litres/100km (45.1mpg) and 144g/km. The V6 supercharged XE S also sees its power uprated from 340hp to 380hp.

On the diesel front, the F-Pace now comes with the option of a 163hp 2.0-litre diesel E-Performance model. With rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox, this engine has claimed economy and emissions of 4.8 litres/100km (59.2mpg) and 126g/km.

There's also a new rear-drive version of the 180hp diesel F-Pace, which has Co2 emissions of 136g/km.

Or you can choose the new twin-turbo 240hp diesel, which in the F-Pace boost performance to a 7.2 seconds 0-100km/h run, with economy of 5.8 litres/100km (48.7mpg) and emissions of 154g/km.

The XF gets the option of the same engine, with both rear-drive and four-wheel drive setups, and economy and emissions as good as 5.3 litres/100km (53.3mpg) and 139g/km. Fitted to the smaller XE, those figures improve slightly to 5.2 litres/100km (54.4mpg) and 137g/km.

The XE also now comes with the option of the 12-inch TFT screen instrument panel, as previously seen on the XF and F-pace, while Jaguar's 'Configurable Dynamics' system (which allows drivers to choose from Normal or Dynamic settings for the engine, steering and gearbox) is now available on the XE and XF as a standalone option.

The F-Pace also gets a new piece of electronic trickery - an in-car payment system, which can use PayPal, ApplePay or Android Pay through an app in the infotainment system to pay for fuel without leaving the car. It only works with Shell petrol stations for now, so won't be coming to Ireland just yet.

All three models also get enhanced safety features, including a new camera-based forward collision detection system, an upgraded blind spot monitor, which takes over the steering if you try to change lanes on top of another car, and an updated camera parking assistant.

Jeremy Hicks, Jaguar Land Rover UK Managing Director, said: "These three models were important in driving us to a record performance in 2016. These models are attracting new customers to the Jaguar brand and now with an extended offering this appeal can only grow. It is all about giving our customers more choice. All three vehicles offer a wider range of engines and a suite of new technology, comfort and convenience enhancements that will make them even more relevant for UK buyers."
