Peugeot bring back the GTi badge with the 308

308 GTi gains 1.6-litre 200hp turbo from RCZ

Peugeot has resurrected the GTi badge, but not with the car we thought it would. The 308 GTi will breath new life into the slightly staid 308, using the superb 1.6-litre turbocharged unit from the forthcoming RCZ.

Visually the car gets a new front bumper, rear spoiler, twin chrome tailpipes and GTi badging, while on the inside there is an aluminium gear knob and a leather sports steering wheel, as well as 18" alloy wheels.

The 308 GTi will put out 200hp from 5,500rpm to 6,800rpm and torque of 275Nm from 1,700rpm to 4,500rpm. With emissions of just 159g/km, it will sit in motor tax band D, with road tax of €447 in Ireland.

Top speed is 237km/h and 0-100km/h takes 7.7 seconds.

The car features McPherson front and torsion beam rear suspension, with specific damper settings at front and rear and the car sits 10mm lower than the standard car.

There are bigger brakes and the car also gets ESP with intelligent traction control, which compensates for a variety of road conditions.

The model goes on sale in France next month. There is no word just yet on details of an Irish launch.
