What's the news?
Lexus will bring a genuine first to the New York Motor Show next week - a sporty version of the LS luxury saloon. Previous LS models, stretching right back to the original 1989 LS400, have been distinctly un-sporty, majoring instead on comfort and refinement. That will change with this new LS 500 F Sport, which Lexus says will have "the most engaging LS driving experience yet offered.
"F Sport models, available with both powertrains, will capitalise on the responsiveness and agility of the new LS Line, which features an extended version of the brand's premium global architecture for luxury vehicles (GA-L) platform. The new platform - the stiffest Lexus has ever developed - offers enhanced handling, ride smoothness and cabin quietness."
The 'both powertrains' bit means that the F-Sport model will be available with both the 415hp 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine and the 354hp LS500h hybrid, which uses twin electric motors to boost its petrol engine's performance.
Lexus isn't offering any more details just yet, but previous F-Sport versions of the IS and GS have involved more aggressive styling and sharper suspension setups than those of the standard models.
