What's the news?
While Renault's recent return to Formula 1 as a full factory team hasn't been as successful as the French maker might have hoped, that hasn't prevented the company from envisaging what the Formula 1 car of 2027 may look like. Due to be revealed at Auto Shanghai on April 19th, the show car follows on from last year's stunning TreZor concept, and like that study is set to hint at the design direction that Renault's road cars will take.
The Vision will be unveiled by Renault Sport Racing MD Cyril Abiteboul and four-time Formula 1 World Champion Alain Prost, though all we have for now is a teaser image showing a light bar on the front wing, which doesn't look too dissimilar in shape to the type used on current Formula E racers. The very fact that Renault is looking this far ahead gives confidence that it will continue to compete in top-level motorsport for years to come, and the trickle-down of new and novel technology to road cars is an exciting prospect.
Despite the recent raft of rule changes in Formula 1, talks are already afoot to bring back more of the spectacle of times gone by. Renault has been involved in the sport since 1977 in both manufacturer and engine supplier capacities, and is keen to put drivers back in the heart of the sport.
