What is it?
The Volkswagen Bulli is back. No, not the original Transporter van of the same name from the 1950s, but a new concept microbus unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show.
Why's it here?
This is the first time that electric power has reached the 'minivan' market. The Bulli concept is powered by an 85kW (116hp) electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack that makes for a range of 300 kilometres.
The Bulli can crack 0-100km/ in 11.5 seconds in its electric format, but VW also admits that the retro concept lends itself to 1.0- and 1.4-litre petrol and turbodiesel engines. There's also a removable iPad as a centre console and a rear bench seat that can be stowed to increase luggage capacity to 1,600 litres.
Show stopper or floor filler?
No-one can fail to miss the two-tone paintwork and the serious nod to classic camper vans of old. Lets hope that VW hangs on to the retro looks and brings the bus back to life.
