What's the news?
Officially, the road-car version isn't even out yet, but already Alpine has announced it is going to hold a one-make racing series for its A110 mid-engined sports car.
The A110s will be mildly adapted for racing, with the main modification being the inclusion of a compulsory roll cage within. They will be designed, built, FIA-homologated and sold to interested teams by Signatec, part of Alpine's LMP2 race team, and it is this company (not Alpine) that will be accountable for the racing A110s.
All races for the one-make series will take place on European circuits, with around 20 cars competing in each round. The championship will evoke memories of the Alpine Cup, which used Alpine GTA Europa Cup cars and which ran between 1985 and 1988, the races taking place as a support series to the European F1 Grands Prix.
Anything else?
Alpine will make the announcement of the racing series via its Twitter social media channel today.
