What's the news?
Some of you may have feared for the health of Lotus, considering that at least a week had elapsed since it last revealed a special edition of one of its sports cars. It's a wonder that Hethel get time to make any vehicles at all these days in between all the new announcements, and the Evora is rapidly racking up the variant count in a fashion that might be familiar to followers of a German manufacturer known for placing engines in the boot.
The Evora GT430 was announced a couple of months ago, and with its aero addenda and track-biased setup is one of the most focused cars ever made by the Norfolk manufacturer. The Evora GT430 Sport that you see here shuns some of that aerodynamic trickery for a much tidier look, and seems to be geared more towards delivering a pure driving experience, while also happening to be the fastest production Lotus in history. Think of it as a Porsche 911 R-style antidote to a GT3 RS's single-minded strive for lap times and you get the picture.
Too generous a comparison? We reckon not, as one look at the Sport's spec sheet will tell you. The adjustable Ohlins dampers, AP brakes and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres (fractionally narrower in this case) are carried over, as well as the sonorous 430hp supercharged V6 engine. It's a mite slower around Lotus's home test track but benefits from a higher top speed of 315km/h thanks to reduced levels of drag, and is also 10kg lighter overall. An automatic gearbox will be an option from January onwards, and the total price undercuts the GT430 by £8,000 (€8,774), now standing at £104,500 (€114,616). Still want that 911?
